Chiropractic techniques in Chatswood
Dr Brett Grant draws on a broad range of chiropractic techniques, selecting and combining approaches based on each patient's individual presentation, age, and preferences. Every technique is explained before treatment begins.
A thorough approach tailored to each patient
Not every patient needs the same technique. At Family Chiropractic Chatswood, Dr Brett's assessment informs which approach, or combination of approaches, that is most appropriate for each individual. Some patients respond well to gentle, low-force instrument-assisted adjustments. Others benefit from more traditional manual techniques. For children and pregnant patients, softer cranial and positional approaches are used.
The range of techniques available at our Chatswood practice means Dr Brett can adapt to the needs of patients of all ages, from infants through to older adults, without defaulting to a one-size approach.
Chiropractic techniques used at Family Chiropractic Chatswood
Dr Brett is proficient in the following techniques and applies them individually or in combination based on each patient's assessment findings.
SOT (Sacro Occipital Technique)
A system-based approach that addresses the relationship between the sacrum and the occiput (base of the skull) and their influence on the spine and pelvis. SOT uses specialised blocking and gentle positioning rather than forceful adjustments, making it suitable for a wide range of patients.
Activator Methods
A gentle, instrument-assisted technique that delivers a precise, low-force impulse to specific spinal joints or peripheral joints. Dr Brett holds advanced proficiency certification in Activator Methods, the highest level of training available. Suited to patients of all ages, including children and older adults.
Diversified Technique
The most widely used manual chiropractic technique. Diversified involves specific, controlled manual adjustments to spinal and extremity joints to restore normal movement and alignment. It may be used alongside other techniques based on the patient's presentation and preference.
Cranial technique
A very gentle technique used primarily with children and infants, focusing on the cranial bones and their relationship to the rest of the spine and nervous system. The pressures used are extremely light, no more than the weight of a finger. Used as part of a broader paediatric chiropractic assessment.
Thompson Technqiue
A drop-piece table technique that uses a specially designed adjusting table with sections that drop slightly as the adjustment is delivered. This reduces the force required and makes the adjustment more comfortable, particularly for lumbar and pelvic complaints.
Combined approach
In many cases Dr Brett will combine elements from two or more techniques within the same care plan. The approach is always guided by the assessment findings and adjusted as your care progresses. No technique is applied without explanation and your consent.
Assessment and monitoring tools
In addition to chiropractic techniques, the following tools are used at Family Chiropractic Chatswood to assess your starting point, inform your care plan, and track progress over time.
Posture Screen
Digital postural analysis technology that provides an objective, measurable picture of your posture and spinal alignment. Used at your initial assessment and at regular intervals to track progress. Quick, non-invasive, and the results are shared with you at each assessment.
X-ray imaging
Where clinically indicated, Dr Brett may recommend X-ray imaging to provide a clearer picture of spinal structure and alignment. Never routine. Recommended only where the imaging will meaningfully inform your care plan. Findings are reviewed with you in detail before any treatment begins.
Every technique is explained before it is used
At Family Chiropractic Chatswood, no adjustment or technique is applied without explanation. Dr Brett takes time to explain what he is doing and why, so you always know what to expect.
